Thank you for this. When I was younger, I was sometimes criticized for "not having enough stick-to-itiveness. I liked to think that it was rather that I could see where a certain experience was heading and knew when a detour was needed. And, we only get to experience a small slice of spectrum of what's possible, so why not reach for all that you can and have fun failing or succeeding, then moving on to what's next?

Yes! Stick-to-itiveness! I'd forgotten that. (Oh, and SO SORRY about the tree on your car. Unbelievable. You guys finally take a vacation and a storm comes after you!)

Our friend's car fared far worse, so we were extremely lucky.

Waiting so long to finally get away from home only to have a violent storm find us doesn't do anything good for our vacation reputation! Who knows what other storms we prevented by staying home? 🤔

I enjoy the variety of your writing! It's a cliché, but the more variety of thinkers and personalities we have the more vibrant our world is. I am pretty much the opposite: same career for 30+ years, fell in love with biking, cooking and gardening at a young age, volunteering for the same organizations for ages.

I like Renaissance Soul better than Jill of all trades or as I am lovingly referred to by my sweetie, border collie-always on the move, finding and herding all the different sheep into the same area.

Keep on keeping on!

Great post, Catherine! Here are some other Renaissance souls. Ethan Hawke, James Franco, Rodin, Reese Witherspoon, and Catherine Friend.

Definitely in your club. Writing allows maximum freedom to pivot and try on new forms and genres. I joke that if I wasn’t an author I’d be on my 40th job by now.

Can you imagine if we changed jobs as often as we change genres? Yikes. Our resumes would be 10 pages long...
